Hey,

I think either the screen or controller crapped out on me, on my 2G iPod Nano I just get colored lines running vertical across the screen. I can still sync with it and blind navigate the menus, just seems to be the display that's messed up.

I was thinking about replacing the screen and wanted to make sure, is the controller a part of the LCD assembly, or is it on the main logic board? Just wanting to know what I need to replace to get it working. :)

Thanks!

Yeah those cheap screens are what I was looking at. I was thinking about just picking up something new, but the 2G Nano does everything I need it to, and if I can fix it for $10, might as well. :)

I was just trying to figure out if I need to replace the LCD assembly or logic board (I really suspect the controller is what's broken, I'm pretty sure the screen itself is fine). Logic boards are probably a bit more expensive, so I may pass on trying to fix it if the LCD controller is on the main PCB.

Just in case anybody w/a similar issue is interested, the LCD controller is in fact a part of the screen assembly. Apparently it's a CoG (chip-on-glass) package. I hadn't heard of this before, but it's a method of mounting ICs on the same substrate as the LCD (on the Nano 2g, there's a long, thin IC below the LCD screen -- this is the display controller).

Ordered one of those cheap $10 screens off eBay and got the Nano fixed. New screen seems to be lower quality than the original part (can't quite put my finger on why, but it just doesn't look as good), and after getting everything put back together, I noticed I have the screen in there a bit crooked. :p Oh well, not too worried about the aesthetics, just glad to have a working screen.
