ok i called SBC this morning and after freaking one year of service, we finally figured out what was the problem, my phone line in the house. The representative suggested that i get a NID splitter, to split the data and phone line, and to install it myself. My problem: I have no idea where to get it and how to install it. I don't want to screw up our phone service Can anyone help me out on this? Thanks.

I did it the cheap way. It worked for me, but your mileage may vary. I bought a $2 plastic adapter that has two phone jacks in it and a very short phone cord that you plug into a jack. It's intended to let you add a second jack where you only have one. I plugged that into my NID (this is the place where your ownership of the phone line begins and the phone company's ownership ends) by unplugging the phone line that was in the NID, inserting the adapter, then replacing the phone line into one of the adapter jacks. Then I plugged my data line into the other side of the adapter. Worked for me because my rig is very close to the NID.

If you do that you no longer need or want filters on your individual phones throughout the house.

how do you know which jack is for data and which one is for voice? Also, did you have to drill a hole to where the data line was going to go to, because my computer is on the other side of the nid

I used one of these. Doesn't matter what you plug in to what side. I didn't have to drill any holes because my NID is inside my house and the rig is in the same room.

You can check this page for more info, or visit the forums on dslreports.com
