Currently My config is :-

Hp Windows Media Center PC m7382in (2 1/2 yrs old)
Intel Dual Core 820 processor 2.8 Ghz
Ati radeon X1300Pro
2.5GB DDR2 ram Transcend
Two HDDs 160Gb & 500 Gb Seagate
16X DVD writer/reader
Tv tuner card

1. What YOUR PC will be used for - Mainly for 3D softwares like Autodesk 3dsMax & MAYA, Photoshop and other video editing s/w like Premiere, etc. Light gaming&movies. So looking for a i7 920 build which is good.

2. What YOUR budget is - under 1900$

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from - Mumbai,India

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. - Pretty much Intel fan, and prefer ATI as i have had no issues for 2 1/2 yrs with my X1300pro. Any reliable HDD will do...

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts - Just the mouse & Keyboard.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads - yes, but still confused about which parts/brands are reliable.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds - MAYBE overclock the CPU from 2.66 to somewhere around 3ghz - 3.2ghz

8. WHEN do you plan to build it? In about a week...if all parts are available.

Rough Config :
Intel i7 920 2.66Ghz
3Gb RAM
500 gb & 1Tb HDD
22X Dvd writer/reader
TV card & Speakers
20"-24" Monitor (High contrast ratio reqd. & good color reproduction)

Confused on MObo options...can't decide

Looking for stable, reliable & good performance parts that will last two years atleast and a total newbie(1st time) at overclocking...so plz suggest accordingly. Thank You.

Welcome to the Forums!

Which ever video card you use, make sure Autodesk supports it.

They are pricks about denying support for non-approved cards.

I know you can't order form www.newegg.com but there are some decent motherboards.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813128386 Giga UD3R x58 - $210 (SLI)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813128375 Giga UD3R x58 $210 - $15MIR (xfire)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813131359 Asus P6T x58 $250 (SLI/xfire)

The cheaper the better for what your need but in case there is an availablilty issue from the place you will be ordering from.

For the cost of you system you could stand to have 3x2GB of RAM.

If you can find any of the following coolers:
http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm FrostyTech's TOP CPU Coolers
They will be fine, the Xigma DK is probably the most popular.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835186020 Artic MX-2 Thermal Compound $7 (after market thermal compound)

For the money these are what I consider the best cases for your money.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811129042 Antec 300 case $55
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811119137 CM 690 case $80

For Autodesk software you want two things - supported GPU & lots of RAM.

Check the Autodesk webpage for a list of supported cards, I believe they now support gaming cards so that will be your best route (4870 1GB would be great for this & give you nice gaming also).

You want 6GB DDR3 at a minimum, 12GB would be better if your budget allows.

The extra RAM will also help for Photoshop.

I would also suggest using a 300GB Velociraptor drive for your primary (OS, applications) and the 1TB drive for storage.
