I plan to buy a CDRW. But I don't know which CD writer/w/software can make recovery CD, just like a recovery CD come with Compaq computer, which can restart and reinstall OS and software automatically(because reinstalling OS and many software is really boring). I find HP9140i come with 'HP Simple Backup with Disaster Recovery'. Does anyone use it to make recovery CD? Or anyone knows how to make a recovery CD?

The best program to do what you want is Ghost. It sells for ~$70 full retail.
Detailed instructions can be found here under tutorials.

everybody has opinions so here is mine.
drive image is better than ghost. For me, to copy the same data, highest compression on drive image takes 7 minutes while ghost takes something like 20 miniutes. The newest drive image has support for directlt writing to CDR's as well as to make a recovery CD, which is what you want.(The new ghost may also have these features)
oh forgot, the drive image pro 4 comes with partition magic pro which is a must-get software..
