So I got invited for an interview for an IT outsourcing company. I haven't responded yet. Is it OK to ask how I should dress?

It's a paid internship position that pays 7 bucks an hour. I'm more into the experience in the IT industry that may be gained than the pay, because my resume needs more than white blank spaces. Do you guys think casual business with a tie is good enough? Or should I go a full-blown suit?

Business casual = slacks + polo or button down.

If you throw a tie in there you are one step above business casual but just below full suit. I personally would go with a suit for ANY interview. The company I am starting at in january is REALLY lax (many of my interviewers were in jeans/tshirt) yet all of us candidates were wearing suits.

IMO, you can't overdress for an interview unless they tell you specifically NOT to wear a suit.

Exactly. Always dress your best unless specifically told not to. If the organization has a lax dress code, they will tell you.

So how about the asking how to dress for the interview? Is it appropriate to ask the interviewer about it?

I wouldn't. Formal clothes is pretty much assumed in all interviews IMHO.

Suit up. Dress for success.

Seriously though...$7/hour? Is this a summer internship? If it is I would hold out a little bit and look for better offers. My first IT internship payed $13.00/hour, and my second summer internship payed $29 + signing bonus.

Seriously...the money is out there. Go find it.

This would be my first IT internship, but yeah, $7/hr is pretty low. Is this what you expect from an outsourcing IT company?

What do you mean by an IT outsourcing company? A company that works as an agent on behalf of American companies seeking to outsource work internationally?

I too want to know....$7/hr in a third-world nation is pretty damn good;)

Perhaps you mean that they are an IT services provider?

Heh...that is true. My guess is they're some sort of contracting agency, but that is of course a total guess.

we always laugh at the people who wear suits to our interviews... it's a funny dynamic when the interviewer is in jeans and a t-shirt with the interviewee in a 3-piece suit :p

but it's better to overdress than underdress... while I laugh at the people in suits, I'd definitely think less of someone who showed up looking like some bum off the street.

Srsly? Does that work?

Considering your time here & post count I'm honored, and yes it does work as long as you clean up after yourself.

Humor is ageless. There is a difference between joking around and what I was speaking about in regards to your posts, maybe mommy will explain it to you soon.
