Need Help! Flash of k7s5a failed!

Man, I'm up sh*t creek without a BIOS... I tried to flash my BIOS on my k7s5a (rev 1) to the latest BIOS (020206L). I got the right BIOS (lan version), and the right flash utility for my motherboard. I have flashed this board before (about 4 times), but hadn't done so for about 4 months. Anyway, the flash util came up and recognized my BIOS as the correct version, etc. and asked me if I wanted to proceed, to which I said yes. The flash util looked like it was going to work fine, with the progress indicator going all the way to the end of the line... then, the screen went blank. It sounded like it was trying to access the floppy a few times, but that was about it. I waited a few minutes, then rebooted. After reboot, I see nothing. Just a blank screen. I put in a boot floppy, the floppy with the ROM, and still nothing. I powered down the box for about 10 minutes and reset the CMOS via the jumper. Still, I get nothing but a blank screen. Any help would be very welcome in resolving this issue!

Uh-oh... this sounds bad. I'm afraid that you might have a very expensive doorstop now, only fixable by sending the board back to the manufacturer to replace the bios chip.

Barring that I haven't a clue how to resolve a problem of this magnitude, but I would suggest going over to www.ocworkbench.com and doing a search in the Forum there for others who've experienced the same. Maybe they'll have some ideas for you to try out. Good luck!

🙂 It's back! 🙂 Whew, that was a close one...

I found the fix on the ocworkbench forum for this. I had to find a "good" rom and rename it "AMIBOOT.ROM" (so I downloaded the previous BIOS file, released in January), put it on a floppy by itself, and boot up the system with it. After about 30 seconds, it beeped 3 times and booted up! Sweet! Looks like the "latest" bios file I downloaded was what hosed my system. Anyway, thanks for the help! Here's the link to the page where I found the fix, in case anyone needs it later:

Spanky, Thanks 🙂

It's amazing what you can do when you're system won't boot... Kinda like the superhuman strength some people display during a crisis (i.e. able to pickup a car to rescue someone)...

Last time I flash the BIOS on this board, though!
