Before I start, I have the PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D.

Ok, this is what happened. I installed Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 in my computer because I needed to use DirectCD to get some old files I had on some old CDs when I used to use it. Anyway, after installing that, I had to install an upgrade it because it wasn't compatible with my DVD-burner. So, I install that, and it screws up my drive, because it's not showing up under "My Computer." I tried finding a driver for it to see if that might help, but I got nothing. So I go to the drive properties, and I get this:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I click "Troubleshoot," I do what it says (uninstall then reinstall), and it doesn't work. I go to "This did not solve my problem." and they say they can't help me. So I tried a bunch of other crap like looking through the registry and, hell, I don't know what I'm doing. I tried to clean the registry, but that was unsuccessful. Is there anything else left to do?

What did you do when you tried to clean the registry?

Please run mpsreports (see my .sig) and send me the resulting yourcomputername.cab file, and I'll bet I can talk you through removing an upperfilter or two to fix your problem.

Oh - and it works in safe mode?

I didn't try safe mode yet, and I used Registry Mechanic. I was just looking for any registry cleaner. I basically cleaned what it considered "Custom Registry." It would let me clean anything else until I registered. Other than that, I don't know any specifics on what else I did with that program. Right now, I'm trying that tool that's in your sig.

Did you uninstall the drive and reboot to see if it detects and re-installs it?

Registry Mechanic? (shudder!) Avoid programs like that. Registry cleaners typically ... don't.

Send me the .cab file to my e-mail address in my .sig (include your URL and AT alias, like it says) and I'll take a look.

Cheers!

Ok, I tried safe mode and it didn't work. What Allanv posted is exactly my problem, so I'm gonna try that.

Alright, that worked. Thanks for the help.

Glad that worked.

Summary for others: Roxio CDROM software puts upperfilters in place that can do bad things. By removing the upper filter that Roxio's installer placed on the machine, the problem is resolved. To avoid this sort of thing, it's usually best to install the latest version of the software possible.
