My friend is having problems fixing his system. I'm in Santa Barbara and he's in LA and he's getting pretty frustrated so it hasn't been easy to help him. He has a BE6-II and a Celeron 566. I've seen some of these problems because I put his system together but that was in August so I don't remember exactly what happened. One thing is that every once in awhile his system will just reboot itself while he's loading windows. Also, he gets windows protection errors when he's booting up win98se. He always has to reboot the first time he turns on his system. Also, he had this problem before and I formatted and reinstalled windows but he still got the same problem. Does he have to do a low level disk format? Is his hard drive messed up somehow? Plus, he can't shutdown his system correctly in win2k. He tells it to shutdown and it exits windows, but it then takes him to a black screen with his system still running. Please help me fix my friends system.

Does he have the latest BIOS update for his motherboard? I'm tempted to say that the problem is because he has an Abit motheboard...:D

Win2k won't shut down properly either because he has not had it installed in ACPI mode, or APM is disabled. Assuming that it has been installed in Standard PC mode (go look in the Device Manager), then he needs to go into Power Options under Control Panel to the APM tab and then enable APM.

Also make sure that APM or ACPI are enabled in the BIOS as well.
