Need help finding a small laptop for writing...

I do a lot of writing on the go, and need to find a laptop that suits my needs.

I'm looking to get something that's...

-Small/Portable
-a great keyboard (i have larger hands, so this makes it tougher)
-Long Battery Life
-Can handle Vista(maybe. XP isnt THAT bad if the cost is right 🙂 )

Everything else is pretty much comes standard now a days I assume (cd drive, decent ram, wireless)

Can you guys recommend something? Thanks

Maybe the MSI Wind when it's out next month, not sure about the keyboard but it's cheap and light. The Dell E (ripoff of Asus eee) might will be out in a month or two as well.

For under $1,000 and lightweight, a refurb Dell Latitude D6xx for $400-600 from Dell's Outlet might be your best choice at 5.x pounds with a 14" screen.

The full-power under-5-pounds laptops tend to be expensive, do you have over $1,000 to spend?

I'd like to go really light weight but i want to keep a budget of around 1k or less.

I'm really reading up on the asus ee and msi wind, but it seems they are underpowered with XP only too.

I wish they would release a dell studio with a 12" screen

Well you're asking for 3 things that are almost contradicting...

- Small/light weight
- Nice keyboard
- Not underpowered

^^ too small and you can't have a nice keyboard. You could get a 13 inch laptop with a nice keyboard, but any smaller and you'll be hurting. Too small and it MUST be underpowered.

These are the options I came up with for a happy medium:
- Dell XPS M1330
- Apple Macbook (non-pro)

^^ those are roughly $1000 (use a student discount for the Macbook) and are NOT underpowered and have full sized keyboards. The Apple keyboard will take a little bit to get used to, but then you can type pretty fast on it actually.

Do you need a ton of power to write? The more power the unit uses the less battery time you get. Why do you need something beefy to write with?
