Need help finding a motherboard!

I currently have a Socket 478 Intel D865GBF motherboard....I know, ancient.

I have 4 PC3200 184-pin sticks that I would like to put into a new motherboard, but have no clue what brand or what model to get. I heard ASUS, Gigabyte, and ABIT are good brands. I definitely want to avoid Intel (last 2 MBs were Intel and I hate them) and I don't want to go AMD. I would like to move up to LGA775 from Socket 478, but if I can get a top of the line 478 over a weak LGA775, that's fine.

I'm currently on a budget ($40-$70) and I need help from the AnandTech MB experts on what's the best motherboard that will fit me.

Look at the asrock 775I65G board with 2 ddr slots, or the asrock dual vsta with ddr and ddr2 slots. Only one board in the world has 4 ddr slots and works with core2 duo. It's made by asrock, but they don't sell it in north america. I tried to buy it directly from them, but they wouldn't sell it to me. It's agp only, and sold in Australia.

If you don't like the asrock boards, you really should reconsider and switch to socket 939 amd. I went from 478 to 939, and the 939 boards are just as stable as any Intel boards. I have 2 939 cpus and 2 boards to use with 6 ddr sticks. It's better than changing memory. The dual core 939 opterons are still available, and offer good performance. The Intel e6300 is better overall (10-20% in some applications), but as you can see, the board selections with ddr are limited. It really was designed for ddr2.

Thank you for your replies, o1die. I would rather stick with Intel than go AMD.

Anyone else has any suggestions on affordable 478 or 775 MBs that take PC3200 184 pin RAM?

Altech computers (australia) carries the asrock conroe 865pe board for $105 plus shipping. It might be worth your while to save a little more so you can go with core2 duo. This board has 4 ddr slots and agp only video.
