Need help finding a LARGE 9v battery...and some other electronics stuff :)

Hi guys,

I've been pretty absent for quite some time, I've had my hands full with school, some projects, and having fun in my free time.

I know there are a lot of electronics gurus out there, so I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find the following for a project I'm doing...

1. A large 9V battery - not the little ones, I need something with some high amperage (maybe 10Ah or so?)...also, it has to be rechargable.
2. An electronics kit that is a temperature sensor. (must run on a 9v battery or lower)
3. An electronics kit that is a motion detector. (must run on a 9v battery or lower)
4. Electronics kit that is a light detector. (must run on a 9v battery or lower)

The last 2 aren't too bad, I'm sure I can find those, just thought maybe if someone had a recommendation on a particular kit. Really I'm having trouble finding the first two (ESPECIALLY the first! 3v, 6v, 12v are easy to find like that, but not 9v ).

10Ah? You might have a hard time getting that for any reasonable price unless you go lead-acid, in which case you could only get 8v or 10v, not 9v. If you have the money, you could pile up NiCd or Q) NiMH cells in series' of 6 to get your 9v/10Ah.

It might help if you gave us some hints as to what your project does?

The battery you need is like a car battery. That would work, but it would be a 12 volt battery. There are also other "wet" cell solutions available for things like portable video cams, etc.

No.

It runs electronics that have been built (by hand...not purchased) to work with a 9v battery, but it takes some serious amperage.

I pulled the 10Ah out of my ass...I just need something with a healthy amount of amperage, that is 9v, and rechargable.

Yeah, I can't use a 12v battery...it's against the rules of the project...9v max.

There is some money sitting behind this project, so don't worry too much about that.

This is for a science competition actually - it's pretty complex and I really have no desire to explain it all right now.

it should not be very hard to put your hands on 1.5V nicads. wire 6 up series. you can do another set of 6 for more amperage (parallel with first set). continue combining series and parallel combo until you reach the desired amperage. It seems 4 4.5 volt would do it, to, wire 2 sets in series, then those sets in parallel.

First of all, amperage and amperes are two different things.

You don't need much amperage unless you plan on operating it for a long time.

9.6V RC rechargeable battery pack will easily do 10-20 amperes.

I will be operating this for a long time while testing the devices and whatnot, so recharging is rather inconvenient to do every little while.

Well, at the moment I found a 9V, 5000mAh (5Ah) battery...I just need to find one that is rechargable.

Grinchy, yeah, I was thinking about doing that - it might work out rather nicely. Worst comes to worst and I can't find a 9v rechargable, I'll do that.

Does it have to be a battery? They do make 9v ac adaptors. I have one that has the same connector as a 9v battery. If it has to be a battery, I recommend making one yourself. I would use 7 NIMH batteries. For the longest runtime, 7 8500mAH D cells would be the best (though VERY costly).

On a side note, 9V alkaline (alkaline ONLY) batteries are actually just 6 AAAA batteries hooked together in series.
