I want to buy a Jetta Desiel for pretty cheap. I REALLY want a Standard, as I really don't like driving automatics on a regualr bassis (thats just prefernce).

I would like to spend ~$2000, and dont want anything older than 8yrs. (1996).

Those are awesome, I drove a TDI jetta this summer from Toronto - Milwaukee (stuck 4 hours in Chicago traffic on the way) on 1 tank of gas. 1000 km + trip.

My bro has a diesel gulf, 5 years old. He purchased it for $8,000 with 100,000 miles already on it. They are pretty expensive.

Your Miata already gets over 30mpg.. Why would you spend thousands of dollars to "upgrade" to a 3200lb "economy car" because it happens to have a diesel that gets 10 more mpg on slightly more expensive fuel?

I'll take one too but the fact is if you find a Jetta TDI 1996 or newer it's going to be selling for more than $2000.

It will get about 45-49 mpg.

That's funny, you came to the same conclusion I did. I was also looking for them, even before the cost of gas went up. They're not cheap, people want top dollar for diesels. It's always been that way.

I think most diesel owners in the US are "diesel enthusiasts", they don't want to let go of their cars. You often see people with old Volvo diesels or MB diesels with 300,000 miles or more. They love them.

?? you mean 16 miles per gallon more on cheaper than 87 fuel?

here, 87 is 2.85 diesel is 2.65

and the jetta standards are rated at 46mpg highway, and in reality they get much better
