Hey all,

I'd like to set up a private file sharing network among my friends.

I'd like to have features such as multi-source downloads, user file browsing, and access control. I'd also like it to be minimally invasive so that I can convince my friends to leave the client running all the time.

I don't mind running a server if no suitable client-only solution exists.

What's the best application to suit my purposes?

You should do a search on the forums or google for a program called waste. I haven't used it, but from what i remember hearing about it, it'll do what you want.

gnutella, just change the network name to something. you could implement access control on your "master" node (the one that gives out IPs to connect to)

Filetopia. NO CONTEST.

Ever heard of IRC? The type of group you are talking about sounds exactly like a private IRC channel.

Combine that with the powere of P2P multi-sourced segmented downloading and total anonymity you've got Filetopia.

Filetopia has been around a loooooong time too. I got on it as soon as CuteMX closed down (Before Napster had any serious problems).

You guys will be able to float messages to eachother through the messageing system too...

Also, what was the app AOL pulled when the Nullsoft (AKA, Winamp) creator posted it (Not Gnutella, the new thing)? It sounds similar to a private P2P thing...

Edit: Actually, "waste" might be it...
