Hey i was wondering if anyone made backpacks that held a laptop as well as a few books. Hoping for something that has its own compartment for the notebook. The dimensions of the notebook are 1.6"h x 14.0"w x 10.4"d.

Targus makes some nice laptop backpacks. The last two I've had have been Targus, and that's in the past 7 years. These things last, and they look good too. You can find them at Fry's Electronics if you have one near you. Otherwise google for a place online that sells 'em.

P.S. I just bought the second one about two months ago. I could still use the other one if I had to, there's not that much wrong with it. What made me stop using it was simply that the padding in the shoulder straps had been compressed so much it didn't pad anymore.

I have a targus and its perfect for a laptop and a few books. I think I got mine at COMPUSA and it was like $70-80.

I recently purchased my own Dell 600M and went to eBags.com to buy my laptop backpack. I planned on biking to school, so the attache-type bags wouldn't work, neither would briefcases.

If you go to their site, you can browse by price, which laptops will fit, and type. The website also shows pictures of the bag, open, closed, and filled with stuff, so you can see what it would look like.

Anyway, I ended up with a Targus backpack, forgot the name though. It has it's own sleeve for the laptop, is heavily padded, and has enough pockets for me.

BTW, look on the hotdeals or fatwallet for coupons for 10% off and free shipping :)

I've had a Kengsington Saddlebag for about 6 years now and this thing has put up with some MAJOR abuse and still is standing strong. It's got several very useful pockets in it and a very large cargo area for your laptop and books. It's also nice because it has both backstraps and an over the shoulder sling.

I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
