Okay, i'll try to make this as short and easy as possible.

My hard drive will be hard drive A, my brothers hard drive will be hard drive B.

I installed Win2K from A to B, and continued to get it working while A was primary master and B was secondary master. When I boot with A as primary master, I have the option to boot to my A's XP, or B's Win2k, and either work, but when I hook up B as primary master, and no secondary, it will not boot, so I can only access the drive if A is primary and B is secondary..I have run scandisk and norton utilities, but neither of them fixed it..when B boots, the error is "Remove disks or other media" ..I think this is a problem with boot.ini, I have tried a few different settings in it, but none have worked..

Any help is appreciated, feel free to ask any questions that might help find a solution 🙂

Thanks

your boot kernal is installed on your primary drive(a🙂 If you switch the drives and reinstall it will work then. But then you have the same problem with one only able to be master and boot.

hope it helps!

This is the boot.ini on my primary drive(A)

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 2000" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
C:\="Microsoft Windows"

This is B

[boot loader]
timeout=3
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 2000" /fastdetect

I'm trying to get B to boot by itself before I have to reinstall.

Try this...

[boot loader]
timeout=3
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 2000" /fastdetect

are the jumpers on the back of the drive set properly? although I don't think it is, it might be the problem
