Ok I got a problem.........Heres the thing I got a micro atx motherboard in a computer I am building for a friend....it had 64mb ram in it already....but I wanna upgrade to more...I looked on the internet and I found out that the max memory in 256......so I purchased 2 sticks of 128 memory(I got right kind of memory this I am sure)....

.This is gonna be hard to explane because I don't have the computer with me but.......when I take both of the old memory out and put the new ones in.....all it does is starts up and shows the start screen(blue screen that says Hewlett packard)....thats all it does it doesn't even make an attempt to boot up.......but when i mix match the sticks(one old and one new) it works half the time.....any idea what's going on?? this is only my 2nd time building a computer so maybe I am not doing something right???? please reply fast....thanks alot!!!!

First guess: the system uses low-density SDR SDRAM and you bought high-density stuff. Physically, it fits, but the motherboard is 😕. Can you get the model number of this HP so we have more to go on 🙂

i dont have the computer with me but i am sure its a hp 6550 or something like that.....the mother board has absoluty no stickers or any info on it so i cannot tell you what mother board it is

Call your friend and find out precisely what model the system is. Also, do you remember any details about the memory you bought? Can you look up your invoice at Newegg or wherever, and post that info?
