Here's what I have done...

On PC#1, I have a 40 GB Hard Drive and a 120 GB hard drive.

Not knowing the program very well, I created an image of the 40GB hard drive to backup (which I need to wipe clean to install into another system-PC#2).

There was about 50GB of storage on the 120GB drive in PC#1, so I restored (extracted) the 40 GB image from Acronis directly onto the 120GB drive.

Now I cannot see the 120GB drive or any of the data that was previously on it!

Did I just delete it? I have a huge lump in my gut right now

Any help would be very much appreciated!

you must have restored the image over the other data in the drive. you should have created a new partition for the image. you will need to get some sort of data recovery software, i dont know which one would be best for this situation, but maybe somebody else does.

Try GetDataBack for NTFS by Runtime Software. I have had great luck with this software...I even recovered photos off a hard drive that had been formatted twice!

Thanks. I'm trying to recover with getdataback right now. I wish I knew why the hell I did this.

Did you "create image" or "clone" your drive?

I think you cloned your hard drive to the 120 GB drive instead of creating an image.

No, it was definately an image, but of the entire drive. At least, I know I didn't use the clone function....

So what was your outcome? I'm about to purchase Acronis True Image, but don't want to screw something up if I need to do what you did.

Sounds like you chose a restore option instead of extract....is there even a way to extract without restoring?

Another question: if you remove the partitions, say zero out the drive (just for example), will acronis re-create all the partitions, etc. on its own?
