Hardware/OS
- Mobo: Asus CUSL2-C Bios Revision 1009
- Video: Asus V7700 Deluxe (GeForce 2 GTS 32meg)
- OS: Windows 98SE

Relevant Information
1) I have AGP 4x enabled in the Bios.
2) I downloaded the latest INF i815 chipset drivers today (12/16)
3) I'm using PowerStrip Adapter Information to confirm my current AGP mode.
4) The ASUS Adapter Information screen confirms that I am running in AGP 2x mode.

Problem
No matter what I do, I can not get AGP 4x mode enabled on my computer!

I have check the FAQ and done a search on AGP 4x that only returned two threads. Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I'm not sure what the problem is, but it shouldn't be hurting your performance any. I wouldn't really worry about it. Especially not with a GF2.

I had a very similar problem with the exact card on an ABIT board. I had everything enabled in BIOS and no matter what I did it would constantly tell me I was running at 2x in Sisoft Sandra 2001. I have the KT7-A and no matter how many times I updated my 4-1 drivers it would repeatly tell me that I had AGP 2x mode enabled. What I did...and I'm not sure if this is an option for you... is that I finally got fed up with win98se (for other reasons) and installed win2k. Doing so of course required me to re-install all of my detonator and 4-1 drivers. Once I did this I checked sisoft and I was again running at 4x mode.

The weird thing is that while I was in a stumped confusion about the 2x thing I kept running 3dmark2001 over and over while it said it was in 2x mode with relatively no performance difference from when my board was 4x mode...very strange. Sorry I have no direct answer...but that is what worked for me.

Ok, here's what makes this even more confusing.

My friend has the EXACT same motherboard (except I'm running a newer BIOS revision), has the same type of video card (different brand) but is running Windows XP Pro and PowerStrip says his motherboard supports 4x.

I realize there is probably not THAT much of a performance difference, but its the principle of the matter at this point. I KNOW my Video card supports AGP 4x (PowerStrip even confirms that), I KNOW my motherboard supports AGP 4x (both Intel and ASUS websites confirm this) so is this something funky with Win98se?

I'll take a look at that NvMax program, but I'm afraid if my motherboard is telling Windows "I can't do 4x" regardless of what I tell Windows in the registry, it just won't do it. Its worth a try though. At this point I'm willing to try _almost_ anything. :)
