Need help differentiating between speaker types

Hey guys. I'm looking to buy some speakers and I've ran into a little problem. The avaliable speakers that fit my car are all different types. If I want 2 speakers in the back, what is the best choice? 2 way, 2 way loudspeaker, 3 way speakers, or multi element? And what's the difference?
 
x-way speakers basically mean that there are x different kinds of drivers that reproduce x different frequency ranges. Examples:

1" tweeter + 5" midrange = 2-way
2 1" tweeters + 3 5" midrange = 2-way
1" tweeter + 5" midrange + 8" woofer = 3-way
