need help diagnosing a problem

So i've been having problems since I bought this card. It runs WoW and CS:Source fine...every other game it will crash while running. I recently started running tests on it...first i thought it was heat so i monitored the heat and had a fan blowing on it from my side panel. never got above 70c when it crashed. I ran occt to check for errors for an hour, nothing. Memtest ran fine. Power Supply passed. I pulled out a stick of ram so i was running dual channel and that didnt help. I turned off that Intel thing that throttles down your CPU if you arent using it to consume power...and that didnt help. I used driver cleaner/reinstalled the latest as well as the drivers on the CD. Ive done everything short of testing it in another computer and/or reformating. Could it be the card is bad...i can't rma it. Anything else i can try? Im using my old 7800gt right now.

specs:
Q6600 @ stock
965p-ds3
3gb of various ram @ 667mhz
corsair hx680 (psu)
2 x 400gb and 1 x 250
XP pro 32bit

Cliffs:
8800gts crashes when playing anything other than WoW or CS:source (including other source games and games of equal video stress)
Tried everything short of reformating/testing in another computer for lack of another computer and windows install discs.

This sticks out to me. Have you ran memtest? If you get errors, try and find 2 good sticks and order a good 4gb kit since they're cheep.

yes, memtestgave me no errors after running it all night (i mentioned it in the above post) can xp 32bit run 3gb?
 
XP should be able to run 3gb of memory fine.

I had a similar problem. When I ran graphics intensive games on my 8800GTS 640mb (MSI), it would play for 5-10 minutes then crash out. Ended up being a bad motherboard, but it took me a long time to troubleshoot. I don't know if it's a similar problem however, since it's working fine with a different video card. Kind of a hard problem to figure out, but finding someone that could pop that video card in would be very helpful.
 
could be a bad mobo but yeah...i mean my 7800gt runs things perfectly fine with the same system specs, just slightly lower graphic settings.
 
What kind of crash it it? Does your computer just completely freeze up? Or does it actually crash straight to black?
 
it did both. it would completely freeze up sometimes, and other times it would go straight to black. But now I have an even bigger problem...I think my motherboard died as i was replying to this post(im on my laptop) i was starting up counter strike and it crashed to black and now my mobo wont post.
 
That's essentially the same thing that happened to me.... I took the computer over to my brothers, swapped his video card into my system and it wouldn't boot at all, then put mine back in, still with no avail. We ended up trying to boot it with nothing in it (no ram, no vc) and we still failed. Even tried a different power supply. Ruled it down to the mobo, so I replaced it and now I'm on that system and it's working great.

I think it was the motherboard all along.

yep im doing research on what to get since it has been a while since i built i a new system im leaning towards a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R I have always bought gigabyte for some reason...im extremely biased towards them.
 
I went with the Asus P5Ql pro, but that's because I didn't want to invest too much in a motherboard that will probably get replaced in the next year anyway. Gigabyte's are generally really nice, but I have had good luck with Asus as well. Definitely up to you though.
 
This sounds like a heat issue to me, but I would also try running with 1 stick of ram to see what happens. Check your CPU HSF and your GPU HSF. Clean your computer thoroughly for dust. Check for loose connections. Make sure your PSU is adequate. Make sure nothing is overclocked. Run Orthos and if you're brave try Furmark (although I hear Furmark can kill a GPU so be careful).

i already did all those things....and then my computer stopped posting...so i ruled it as motherboard.
