I am currently using a 19" and I need something a little bigger. I noticed both walmart and circuit city will both have 27" TV's selling for under 150.00 tomorrow. The walmart TV is made by symphonic and the CC TV is an Apex. I know apex isn't the highest quality, but I have never even heard of symphonic, which one is better?

I will try to add more info as I find it. The apex has an S video input, I am not sure about the symphonic. I also believe the apex is mono as opposed to the stereo symphonic. They both have front and back AV inputs and rear AV outputs. One reason I want a bigger TV is cause it is hard to watch widescreen DVD's on a 19". Right now I am using my PS2, but I plan on buying a home theater sound system and a DVD player if that matters.

If that is your price range and that is all you can find in that range i would reccomend going and Checking out both and decide which one looks the best to you, Having said that the apex ones i have seen are not great quality but i dont see it being bad for being on a budget.

Yeah but the problem is, that my sister was gonna buy the symphonic for me at walmart tomorrow for a christmas present. If I decide I want the apex i have to call and tell her not to get it.

Get one with s-video input at least, because when you hook up a dvd player or console (even if not now but in the future) it makes a WORLD of difference. Trust me on this one.

So I should go with the 27" Apex with the S video input? Like I said I don't even know anything about the symphonic, it could very well have S video too.

Honestly I wouldn't touch anything made by Symphonic with a 10 foot pole.

Go for the Apex.

Honestly, they are both probably going to be junk... could you ask your sister nicely for the $150 and then you could put some of your own $$ forward and buy a tv yourself after you've done some comparison shopping in person?

Getting the tv on sale is a good idea. Getting the cheapest of the cheap on sale isn't.

I've been browsing around the circuit city site and came across a 3D view of the TV and on the back the AV inputs and outputs are all Red/White/Yellow, but under the specs it lists the audio type as mono. Does that make sense, or am I just stupid

Yeah but I don't have a lot of money, and yes I could get her to give me the 150.00 in cash, and then at best add another 150.00 or so to it myself. But after the sales are over that will still only buy me a cheap brand name model 27" TV.

Don't get the Symphonic

I own the Sylvania tv which is the exact same as that Symphonic (even the remote) and the tube just burned up about 2 weeks ago. My parents bought it 2 years ago from Sears for $175-$200 which was a pretty good price at that time. The color on it was dark and a little blurred...but what do you expect from a cheap tv.
As far is inputs, it had 2 composite video ins (1 front, 1 back) and 2 sets of audio ins (1 front, 1 back).

Go with the Apex if it has S-Video in. I just got a 20" TV that has S-Video in and I can't believe the difference it makes. Soooo much more clear than Composite is.

Hope this helps.

We have tons of the symphonic tv's at out store. They are pieces of junk IMHO. We probably had 60-80 of them and it will take some time for them to run out. Bigger stores will have more tvs. I would not buy it. I'd spend the extra and get a Sanyo or something better.

We had 2.5 pallets of the dvd players, tons of the 13" tv/vcr combos, couple pallets of the dvd/vcr combos and 120 Game Boy Advances.

Sorry for my indecisivness(sp?) but I took your advice and did not get one of those cheap TVs. I was browsing ads today though and I came across the 32" Advent TV in the Best Buy Circular. It sounds pretty decent, but I once again need to know if Advent is quality and reputable or crap like the other 2

I have a 27" apex TV. (possibly the same one you're looking at). There's nothing fancy about it, but it works just fine. I haven't had any problems with it, and it has a decent picture.
