Need help deciding on IBM HD for raid setup (60GXP or 120GXP)

I was just about to buy the same IBM 60GB HD I currently have (Deskstar 60GXP), to make a raid 0 setup with a new Abit Kt7Raid motherboard I purchased. But, there is a new model on Newegg, the Deskstar 120GXP. Should I purchase this 60GB HD instead, or stick with the identical one? Also, any advantages to the 120GXP? Thanks....

If you are seriously thinking about using IBM HDs for RAID 0 then you must be out of your mind.

Just search for threads containing the words "IBM" or "GXP" and prepare to be amused.

Well, I thought IBM got rid of most of their problems. I have had their drive for a couple months, and it has been great. I don't think I'd want to go with a maxtor.

Uconn411, have fun and do it...i'm not to familiar with raid, but does it have to be the same drive? or same size? I would agree with the others if it were the 75gxp's. But i think your safe with the 60's and 120's.

Hmm.. I'm not completely sold on the 60 GXP's reliability. In my opinion to many have complained about them crapping out to say that they are a safe bet. It might be because they've sold so many that it just looks like an inordinate amount but without any data from IBM it would be wise to go with another brand at this moment.

I would consider the Maxtor 740dx. Very popular drive on this board and you hardly hear anything about them failing.

So, even though I have an IBM 60GXP presently, you guys would suggest that I use another brand with the same capacity, such as Western Digital, or Maxtor?

Please forget about IBM hard drives for the time being, it's not worth the risk. I've had a total of 4 out of 6 IBM (all actively cooled) fail.

Use your current IBM HD as storage or sell it even, just DON'T use it on a RAID0 array, it's suicide. RAID performs best with identical HDs, there is no hardware limitation though so in theory you COULD run your 60GXP with any other HD that is supported by your controller.
