Need help deciding on CPU

Hey im building a new computer and i had a few questions. I am stuck betweene choosing An intel pentium 4 or an AMD Processor. I will be using the computer for some gaming and other regular use.

But also i got confused, i look at the Intel Cpu in my price range was 3.0 - 3.2 GHz When the AMD processor i was looking at was Duel core 3500+ or 3800+

And also if you had any suggestions on what a good CPU would be inthe prce rand of about 200 dollars.

Thanks alot.

Intel is releasing a new line of powerful processors later this summer with an asking price starting at around $200, so if you can wait I suggest you do.

You seem like a newbie at this, so I suggest you not look at the model numbers or gigahertz to rate the different companies. Coming to this forum was a good idea.

Right now, the AMD processors are the better buy, but with the coming Intel processors a major price break is supposedly on the horizon.

I would retitle it or have it be locked.....

Just ask "need help deciding on PC"...The title you have brings in the fanboys hellbent on flamefest....

P4's are great but anything A64 is far better IMO....

If you want to wait you can look forward to about 4 weeks at least before they pop up at retail outlets...Conroe will be worth it IMO...

i guess really what i was trying to ask was this..

wich would run better,

a A64 duel core running about 1.6 GHz each

Or a single P4 running around 3 Ghz
