A friend is looking to get added security by having a camera watching the front door.

She wants to be able to see who is there without getting near the door for safety reasons.

I've been looking around but I'm sorta lost. I'm thinking that hard-wired would be the best but I'm not at all sure.

Any input would be very appreciated.

What about a WiFi-based camera? That way she could view it from a laptop or from anywhere in the house, and she wouldn't need to really wire anything besides power.

This sounds good. Do you just enter an IP address into the computer to go to the camera view?

How about the power to the cam? Would I just drill through the house??

Assuming the OP already has wifi, you could still do this with a wired cam. Since you still have to run power to the cam, might as well run some cat5 with it as use a wired cam. They are way cheaper, smaller, and much more reliable.

I say wired all the way. There's just no justification to using wireless.

BTW, I've installed many of each.
