I'm in the market for a gaming mousepad. I feel that 40 is a tad too much for a pad, unless the performance difference between those that are less expensive and the pricey pads is huge. Right now my eye is on the Ratpadz GS and the fUnc sUrface 1030 black pad. Both of those are within a decent price range, but I wanted some input from the great minds on AT instead of just listening to those damned reviewes that seem to always be biased. Which one would you go with and why?

The Ratpadz GS is an awesome mat, but I really have nothing to compare it to. Kyle Bennett sent me two free cause I took a tour of CPU the magazine's headquarters, and he writes for said mag and is good friends with all the staff (how sweet is that?) Anyway I digress, the only thing that's been able to make my pad better was the addition of the C4 NexGen teflon pad. You can read about it here. It rocks (and btw, I got that free too cause I beta'd it) so I say give 'er a try. Oh, and get some teflon tape for your MX510, I didn't like the stuff that came with the C4 pad, I suggest you hit fragware.com for an 8 inch strip, it's only $2 with shipping. With all this stuff, my MX510 glides around as if it were on air! ;)

Edit: Oops, guess it's fragware.net, my bad...

I had a Ratpadz GS for a year and it was good but the center got kind of worn. I have a Func 1030 now and it's just as smooth though a bit smaller. Anyway it's supposed to last better and has 2 sides so I'm hoping to get at least 2 years out of it.

There are lots of good gaming mouse pads,Everglide series which include Giganta/Ricochet pads also fUnc 1030 ,Steelpad, black Icemat,Ratpadz to name a few,do a search with google for reviews, the right one for you really depends on a few things like price, pad size,durability/performance etc...however they are all worth being put on your short list then it`s down to you to pick one ;).

according to user reviews, steelpad/icemat provide smoother sliding (more slippery) and the func1030 has better grip (shorter and quicker stops)
FPS crowd seem to favor the former, while starcraft/RTS gamers prefer the latter. icemat can get pretty cold and if you got sweaty palms your sweat sticks to the glass and may impede the performance.

oh yeah, i had 3 ratpadz and i am pretty positive ratpadz are not in the same league as the two pads mentioned above.

I have a Ratzpad GS, but my bro has a fUnc 1030 and when I felt his, it was SO mine. My mouse sensitivity actually isn't very low so i don't even use half of my Ratzpad space and it does seem like the area that I use is getting worn down just slightly after one years use =\

Chrisbtx, man I'm tellin' ya, you need to try the Ratzpzd with the C4NGen Teflon surface on it. I actually just got the one that's custom cut to fit right on the Ratzpad today, and it amazes me to no end. Everyone I know is trying to get the free beta one I have from me, but I'm keeping it for LAN's and stuff;) Course this might be a little pricey for you to go this way cause the Ratpads are like $14 and this C4NGen ran me $10 shipped, but IMHO it's totally worth it...

Just an update... I bit on the Func 1030 deal that Xoxide.com had for the 4th of July sale (18 bucks including shipping for me!). I figured I don't need as much space as the big gaming surfaces allow, partly because I don't have the space on my desk for it ;). Having the price dropped to within a dollar or two of the Ratpadz after shipping is applied is a GREAT deal in my eyes!

Thanks everyone for the help!
