I just turned 18, and I signed up to get credit from Newegg preffered account. (I pretty much have the money already, I just wanted to save a week.) Anyway, they denied me because I don't have a "required a credit bureau report" ...

How do I get a credit score, if no one will give me credit? Where do I start?
Thanks.

Start small, work your way up. Gas card would be a good place to begin.

You can start with a store card of some sort, or a secured credit card to establish a history. Once you've done that and built up at least some track record, you'll be able to get credit / cards etc.

Get a secured credit card, buy small stuff and pay it OFF at the end of each month. After one year you should have no problems getting other credit cards, starting with gas/dept store varities.

Not sure if they are still around but Sterling Bank used to offer one, google....

when are you going to be a college student? check Citi, BofA, Chase for student cards. The student card might work for a high school student, not sure..I didn't get the first one in my name until the summer before I started college..

Agreed. If you want to go the easiest route that's what I would do.

Save $300 - $500 cash, go to your local bank and apply for a secured credit card.

When my sister turned 18 that's how she started her credit.

I was getting calls about credit cards and lines of credit two days after my 18th birthday. All I'd had up till then was a checking account. I honestly believe that they looked at my mother's credit history and said "Hey, I bet her kids won't be able to manage their finances either! THROW PLASTIC AT THEM!"
