Need help creating a car-audio system.

Hey guys. I'm privileged to be involved in a company sale for Harman Kardon and around 90% off all of their company and sub-company audio equipment. The two brands I'm looking at are Infinity and HarmanKardon. I have a 2002 VW Jetta and want to completely make it over and outfit it with all the best equipment. If any of you feel like going through and picking out everything I would need it would be greatly appreciated. Any general comments would be welcome as well. Thanks in advance!

Infinity Kappa Perfects all around... i believe the jetta takes 6.5" components in each door, and get a pair of 10's or 12's for the trunk... Infiniti's Kappa Perfect series is damn good... but you're gonna need a good head unit, amps, and wiring

The best isn't infinity nor harmon kardon.

AND A REALLY HIGH END SYSTEM CAN REACH UPWARDS OF $30K.

Can you get JBL also since they're a Harman Kardon company? Get perfect components and subs and those new infinity reference series amps are really nice. Make sure you install the components correctly...and try to use dynamat or something equivalent.....

Dude, that HU is awesome. GF has it in her car along with their 6.5" coaxials. For the accord you can get the whole setup for $400. Highly recommended.

damn, i need a set of kappa perfect 6.5 components, wanna make me a deal?:)

you can never go wrong w/ infiniti on the speaker and amp side, used them religiously for years and hold up great to most of the higher end equip (not counting insane ba, mb, focal, etc stuff)

Gentlemen...he is a self-proclaimed bitch, what else should you expect?
 

For my 2001 jetta (now driving a honda :p) i had 6.5 components in all four doors. I prefer CDT (even the classics blow away any infinity perfects, and yes i have had both) components as well as focal. The perfect subs would sound good in there, i would recommend 2 10" subs with a good amp. Dont forget that you will need an amp (4 channel) for your components, you will not be able to use the amp that is already in your jetta.
If you plan on installing them yourself hit me up via pm. I did mine all on my own, it was a GIANT pain the the ass but the end saved me alot of money and the system kicked ass. FYI, it is a PITA a big one at that. For installing components on all the doors you will:
1.have fun learning how to remove the door panel (ohh joy that sucked)
2.remove glued tweeter from the doorpanel (sounds easy doesnt it? lol ya right)
3.have to use a drill to remove the speaker from the door, there are rivits there that you will not be able to remove them without a drill
4. Have to either use the speaker adapter (the ones that are already on there that you will most likely break trying to remove) or buy an adapter from sounddomain/crutchfield/etc for $8 a piece (i think its 8$)
5. Then you will have to install the new speakers and rout new wires through the door (if you dont use new wires when you do this, then you are not doing a good job).
This isnt even counting the rewiring and hidingthe wires.....
I dont mean for this to sound cynical but it is rewarding in the end.

I gotta vouch for the CDTs also. I have the eurosports but there are newer models out I think. Couple that to a tube amp and a DECENT headunit and you'll have a killer sound system.

Me:

CDT 6.5" eurosports - $450
Tube driver blue amp for CDTs $500
JL 10" sub + box $250
JL 600W class-d amp for sub $250
Nakamichi cd-400 cd player $300

<--- gotten lots of compliments on my sound system.

60% of the way your car sounds comes from install.

I am partial to Eclipse (the 3414 is a great mp3 unit), but the Nakamichi's are in a class of their own....

Actually, JBL is included too. The way I'm actually getting this deal is through someone who's worked at Crown for over 30 years. They are allowed to spend $4000 every 6 months on this deal. I've seen a room with those amps just laying around like they were worthless.

How much do you guys think it would cost me to get this all installed "professionally" and where could it be done? Is the cost worth freeing myself of the hassle?

And just to shut the naysayers up, here's proof. (Because we all know an employee sale is just such an unbelievable story!!)

Yeah, the markup on car audio is insane. I outfitted my whole car with Sony ES components a few years back, paid 25% of list price through a similar promotion.

My advice to you? Don't blow the money on things you won't appreciate. (don't buy a $2000 amp if a $1000 amp will do just fine) Go ahead and blow the money on features over quality. And oh, don't forget to accidentally order a little extra and sell it ot me on the side. :)

As for the install, you should be able to find someone to help you do it (it is a LOT of work though and even MORE work to do it right) that you can pay off with parts.

Haha. I was thinking the same thing. Ebay all the stuff and get the funds for the "real" high end stuff. :D
