Hello guys......Let me just say that I am working 80 hours + a week so I don't have time to do much research..

If someone can guide me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

I need to help someone abroad, install a program and basically create some folders and files in her PC.

I am using Windows 7 and she is on XP.

What program can I use that would allow me to control her PC this way?

She will be on the other end to OK any prompts or security issues.....I even have the admin password and user password to her PC.

Thanks!

If the both of you aren't behind a NAT/firewalls, try using Remote Assistance.

1: I am looking for something that is FREE. I was thinking of RealVNC?

2: I am behind a router and have software firewall installed (NIS) However, it's her PC that I would be controlling.

I read a small guide about using RealVNC and it looks simple enough....I hope this is correct:

Install the server software in her PC

Install the viewer in mine

Then as her to righ click on the tray icon and enter my IP address to allow control?

Thanks!

Teamviewer is actually a subset of UltraVNC.

UltraVNC is very good especially when it comes to Files, and it is totally free

Install first VNC on you computer, use the default setting and play few minutes with the Server so that you become familiar wit it and can instruct the other side that needs the server what to do.

You do not need to open any ports on your side.

The computer that you are going to control on the other side needs to forward one port through the Router and the software firewall.

If you are good learner and have some knowledge about this issues it should not take more than an hour to master and execute the whole process.

Some general info (more global and deep than your specific situation).

UltraVNC does Remote control, and it also has a File transfer Module that gives access to all the Drives on the remote computers as is.

Looks like this, http://www.ezlan.net/example/vnc_file.jpg

Use the native 128 AES encrption module and it is just as Safe as VPN, SSH, or any other protected Interent traffic.

If you have few computers you get into any one that you want to by just assigning each one VNC with its own unique port.

In my Network Computer's 1 VNC is configured to port 55555. So on any computer in the world that has Internet conncetion I can plug the Client VNC (a 1MB File and encryption key on flash drive) address jack.myip.com:55555 (jack.myip.com is the free DNS serivce the direct it to my Netwprk externa, IP 55555 tells it on my LASN to go to theVNC that is on port 55555) password box comes on, I type the password, and Bam, I am into my computer Number one.

There is No needs for any arrangement on the computer that is used to connect to your network, and when using flash drive No traces are left on the computer.

Or I can type jack.myip.com:55558 (computer 2 VNC is configured with port 55558), and bam I am in Computer 2.

Configuration details.

You can try using various remote support services such as logmeinrescue, gosupportnow, GoToMyPC etc. in order to establish remote desktop connection between XP and Windows 7 computers.

I use TeamViewer at work on the local/external network because it's much more user friendly for most people.
