Need Help configuring my TV

HI, I have an old TV that used to be top of the line. I got it from school. All they told me was that it cost $2200 and had these specs. I believe it is the Zenith 47 presentation series

36"
Front VGA is 800:600 60hz
Rear VGA does up to 1600:1200
Native Res is 1024:768
560 Scan lines

What exactly does this all mean. I am going to be setting up my XBOX360 to it and the reviews say that HDTV is really important to see all the details on it.

If I hook the 360 up to the VGA and set it 1280x768 will it be any better than if I just plug it into the Composite Cables. Is it worth the extra money for the VGA Adapter?

If I do use the composite, should I set it to 480P or 720P. It looks like it should be in between, but there is no setting for that. If I use the VGA, will that give me 720P HD quality, or will it be downscaled? Can I go any higher on the VGA if my TV supports it?

I really appreciate the help.

You cannot get HD using composite. Unless you mean component, you're going to have to get the VGA cable.

What kind of TV is this anyways? Front and rear VGA? Native res but only 560 scan lines?

No idea, but here is the model if you want to look it up. H3647DT

I got it for free and I never really researched it. I am just going by what I was told. I don't know too much about displays. Any gurus here?

Hmm, weird. Kinda old. Not sure how well it'll look on it.

At least you got it for free though.

Here is what I found from Google:

"Zenith's 47 Series 36-, 32-, 27- and 25-inch television monitors incorporate the Multi-Sync Technology card from TV One, allowing for a variety of computer resolution formats (up to 1600 x 1200) while using the rear connection DB-15 port, and native SVGA image quality (800 x 600 at 60 Hz refresh) from the additional DB-15 connection on the front of the sets.

Additional features of the 47 Series include: Auto Sizing for full-screen image display; Multiple Level Zoom and Pan capability that allows users to zoom in on a particular part of the television screen and pan vertically or horizontally; Horizontal/Vertical Image Control; and Image Freeze. (Manufacturer's suggested retail prices: Model H3647DT - $2,299; Model H3247DT - $1,549; Model H2747DT - $1,099; Model H2547DT - $949.)"

(spec sheet)

"NEW 600+TVL, 800x600 x 60HZ refresh SVGA Monitor

The 47 series is identified by the second pair of numbers. The first pair always indicates the relative screen size. The Presentation series are offered in 25, 27, 32, and 36 inch screen size. That measurement is corner to corner diagonal. 46 indicates the set is delivered with the scan conversion card. It is fitted with the PCZ 2100 (1600x1200 @ any refresh rate). The zoom capability is now 3x (increased from 2x) "

"36" monitor/receiver with dual scan PCZTV data display - Color TV/monitor (560 lines of resolution). Data display includes two 15-pin computer inputs with up to 1024x768 native resolution, scalling for 1600 x 1200 resolution, S-video loop in/out, stereo, front jacks for video and audio input, 1-year warranty."

It doesn't look stretched in the 1024x768 screenshot they took in that article.

woa thats just weird. if its native 1024x768 then anything higher will get scaled to that level of detail:p not sure why they'd bother with 1600x1200 if it can't resolve anywhere near that detail, only pics or giant text would work:p if its 1024x768 square then its not enough for 720p which is widescreen. but i guess it would be better than plain standard def since you should be able to run 480p since vga is progressive. so its ok but not great. i'm guessing it costs a lot because it was a niche product for easy connection to laptops for presentations. the front vga would be me. and u can buy a vga cable for xbox360
