Need help choosing new Mobo & Processor

Hey all, no idea who to turn to so I figure I'll get the best advice here.

I'm looking to upgrade my system but have been out of the hardware loop for quite some time now. I would go the route of PCI-Express except for one problem: I have an ATI Radeon X800XT 256MB but it's AGP. Being as it's such a good card I have no desire to upgrade to a new PCI-Ex system and have to buy a new video card.

So, I'm looking to upgrade to an AMD 64 system. What I'm looking for is Any AMD 64 type processor (Sempron, FX, X2, etc.) rated around 3.5-4 Ghz with a rock solid motherboard to go with it. The motherboard needs to have the AGP Slot and SATA support. If it has onboard LAN even better.

For the life of me I can't seem to find the hardware I need. I scoured NewEgg but it seems like non PCI-Express based systems are slowly getting phased out.

Thanks in advance for your help and HAppy Thanksgiving to you and yours. 🙂

Look in the Mobo sticky thread. I just went through the same issue,But I did go with a PCI-E video card. There are a couple good mobo that have what your looking for.

I went with a Abit AN8-Ultra and a Athalon 64 3500. I have it running solid at 2.5 Ghz. I will get more outta it when I get better memory.

Happy hunting.

So you obviously are coming from an Intel system.

There are no AMD processors that run 3.5-4.0 ghz. You are looking at 1.8-2.2 ghz stock. (Then the overclocking begins)

What is your budget? That is the main question. You can go Sempron 3100 with a Socket 754 mobo for around $160.00.

And up from there.
