Hi everyone, I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to cell phones and cellular providers. So I'm hoping someone can help me a little...

Currently I have this phone: http://www.newcellphonesblog.com/pantech-ease-cell-phone-for-att-price-69-99.html AT&T Pantech Ease. It was given to me by my brother for Christmas 2010. He told me to only use it for Text and Talk, not for internet stuff. Honestly I didn't know how much cell phones had advanced. But it appears now that they are just miniature computers. You can Skype from them, Facebook, send photos instantly, take video footage, etc. It's pretty amazing what these newer model phones can do.

Well, now I'd like to have one, but I have no idea which one to get, or which provider to choose. I have a credit history that is about 50/50 good and bad. But I could afford about $50.00 a month, give or take $20 dollars.

Ok, if you're curious, I want to break away from my brother's plan for privacy reasons. He's a great brother, but I have a girlfriend that he might not like....so, I want to keep my calls etc. private. My girlfriend lives in Romania, and I live in USA Florida. So there is my dilemma. I guess I'll use the phone like she does...texting, Skyping, sending pics, and small video clips.

Can anyone help me with picking a plan and a phone that will allow me to do these things?

Thanking you in advance so much, for any help! :)

If you have MetroPCS in your area they have a $40/mo plan. The LTE data is limited but then it throttles to 3G. My partner got the Samsung Galaxy Avant on that plan (I got on it when it was $30). He likes the phone, it has a very readable screen, micro SD and a replaceable battery.

Thank you so much for your help. :) I'll research it now and see what I learn.

You can also check out Cricket, which runs on AT&T's network. They give you 10GB of 8Mbps LTE data for $55/mo but it throttles to insanely slow speed after that. Odds are that 10GB of data would be just fine for you though.

And I'll also put a plug in here for something like the Microsoft Lumia 635. Its only about $50 usually and should do just about everything you're looking for from a modern mini-computer.

I wouldn't say 12yr old kids master it for the most part. Someone else is paying for the service, and they use the phone they're given. Shopping for phones/service is a PITA. So many products/services are close, but not quite right, it takes time to digest it all.
