I am upgrading my generic PC-100 this week to some good PC-133. I have narrowed my choices down to two. I was originally going to get the Mushkin Mosel Rev2, but it is now $194 for 128mb!!
I am planning on getting the Mushkin Mosel Rev1.5, or the Crucial cas2. The Mushkin is $166 in stock, and the Crucial is only $140, but they are out of stock until July 25th or so. Should I wait for the Crucial or go with the Mushkin Mosel. I am also wondering how much of a performance difference there is between the two Mosel revisions. Any help is appreciated...

Thanks Technonut, I guess Mosel Vitalic is the best, but is the rev2 worth the extra $28 each? $194 is alot of cash for memory. I am buying two, so that is a little steep. Is there a big difference between the rev1.5 and rev2?

If you have the cash, I would go for the Rev.2. I have mine split up now with 1 128MB stick of the Mosel Rev.2, and 2 64MB sticks of Kingmax Tiny BGA. I wish I had all Mosel. Have you checked with John in the For Sale forum? He gets the Mosel Rev.2 in all the time, and usually is a lot cheaper than anywhere else. I bought mine from him. His most current thread is here:

Shoot him an e-mail and see if he could hook you up.

Hey, did you see this over at Memman:

128Mb PC133 CAS2 SDRAM (Athlon Tested)(Using Mosel Chip V54C365804VCT7) Best for Overclocking Overclockin.com Review Extremeoverclocking.com Review 177.00

EDIT: I still would check with John first though.

Yeah, I saw that, but I wasn't sure if it was the same stuff or what revision it is. If it is the 1.5, it is more expensive than Mushkin. I sent John a private message, and I will wait to hear from him...

What part of the number is the revision, I can't tell from the number above...I really want to be able to run Cas2...

I will almost miss my PC-100, I am running it at 118mhz at 4-way/Turbo/Cas2/No Delay/Lo. I get scores of like 415/450 in Sandra now...

BTW- I saw somewhere the Kingmax memory, which is the TBGA I believe, selling as PC-150?? Have you heard of this??

I'm at 119 now CAS3 Medium. I will pull the Kingmax and see how high I can go with the Mosel at CAS2 turbo. I'll post back later. Since I have basically the same setup, you should have similar results.

Thanks, I appreciate it. That helps alot. I was looking at the memman site, and the chip # they have seems to be the same as the Mushkin Rev2, but the picture of the chip is not very clear on Mushkin's site.. If the memman stuuf is rev2, that is a good price. Thanks for your help...

I'm kind of confused on whether I have Rev. 1.5 or 2. My chip #'s are V54C365804VCT7 the # on the Rev 2 looked a little blurry on Mushkin's site. Anyhow, its great memory. Kingmax does have a PC150 TBGA available, but I am not sure if it is CAS 2 or 3. I know at CAS3, the PC133 TBGA is very good.

I have the Mosel topped out at CAS2 turbo at 148MHz stable. The FSB is at 113 (105/35 FSB+ 8), cache at 2/5, voltage is 1.80, I/O voltage at 3.40.

WCPUID:

905.63 MHz
226.41 MHz DDR

Sandra Benchmarks:

CPU 2574/1258 PR/1205
MMX 3057/4235
Memory 477/558

I know the cache being at 2/5 is not a factor since I was running higher with it there before. I ran a few loops of 3DMark2000, and some PhotoShop. Hope this helps some. I think that 148MHz at CAS2 turbo is pretty good. I may try CAS2 fast and medium, to see how much more it will do.

Damn you Insane:) I'm going to have to change my signature again. I just found that I can run stable at 889.51MHz at 1/2 cache, 111 FSB, 1.75 volts, CAS2 turbo, with the Mosel. Now I am going to have to buy another 128MB stick! I prefer the lower voltage and above specs to what I have been doing. Oh well, at least I know now.

I used PC133 2-2-2 from Crucial Microm (the -7E stuff). It works fine at FSB+CLK with FSB=114MHz in Turbo mode, delay to AUTO and CAS2 but system crashes sometimes under some 3D programs. It could be meory or whatever althougn I think is it.

Technonut- Great job! I get some good marks, but my memory bandwith is limited due to the PC-100. Here are my scores..

Clock Frequency
Internal : 1005.97 MHz
External : 236.70 MHz DDR
Multiplier : 4.25

L1 I-Cache : 64K
L1 D-Cache : 64K
L2 Cache : 512K Byte
L2 Speed : 1/3 S6 (2/5 H6, 1/3 S6)

Sandra:

Memory: 413/451
CPU: 3164/1352 PR:1338
Multimedia: 3421/4700

I might just spend the extra, and get Mosel rev2...
