Need help choosing cables + adapters to connect PC to HDTV HDMI Input

Hi Folks
Please help me put these things together:

I have a GTX 280 that has SPDIF input:

I have a P6T Mobo that has a 4 pin internal SPDIF out.

After these 2 things are connected via this cable, I am under the impression that I need a unique DVI+Sound to HDMI adapter to transmit the audio+video signal via the HDMI cable.

or can I use any DVI to HDMI cable?

Links to where I can purchase these would certainly net you a cookie 🙂
Thanks!

I think DVI carries sound as long as the source is sending it no? Only thing is that very little hardware sends out sound via DVI.

If that's true, any DVI to HDMI will work.

DVI uses the same methods for sending signal as HDMI. The main difference is that HDMI has the audio encoded with the stream and DVI usually doesn't contain audio. The card you are using is encoding the SPDIF into the data stream. So all you need is a DVI to HDMI cable.

WRONG

Both ATI 4xxx cards and nVidia 9xxx and 2xx series cards require special adapters. They look like normal DVI to HDMI adapters but are wired differently internally to work with the custom mapped DVI ports on the cards use.

BFG sells the proper adpater as do XFX and EVGA, though BFG seems to be the only store that sells it conveniently.

Thanks a lot! I'm pretty sure this is what I was looking for 🙂

I'm glad i cam across this thread. I'm sorta trying to to the same thing here, so i understand the card needs it's own adapter to send the signal to the tv. Now my TV is hooked up to a Direct TV HD receiver. I want to use just one HDMI cable to the TV if possible. I imagine i need a splitter of sorts out of the receiver, but i'm not sure what kind. Since this is for a bedroom setup i do not have an audio video receiver.
