I'm very close to purchasing a Samsung 191T LCD monitor. I need to get a new video card with a DVI output to replace the ATI 8500 I currently have. Any suggestions on what card to get? I play games once in awhile and sometimes watch movies on my machine. Though that could change once I get that monitor. Mostly I'll be surfing, doing some graphics work, and using general applications. I want to spend at most $175 on the card.

does the 8500 not have a DVI? that's a shame if it doesn't.. those cards work great.. and for $175 or less, you won't get a "worthwhile" upgrade.. most cards in that range are about as good as that (maybe a tad better) maybe you can look at a Radeon 9500 for around that price range... not too much else that will improve upon what you have for the $.

I have an OEM 128MB ATI Radeon 8500 card. I think I paid like around $120 for it. Unforunately, it only has a standard VGA output and no DVI. At the time I was building my machine, I didn't forsee myself wanting to purchase an LCD monitor. I like the ATI Radeon 9500 and it seems like that might be what I go for. I could possibly increase my spending limit to $200 once I can put some money aside.

although it will be about the same speed, 9000 pro cards tend to have dvi, s video , and vga out.

My oem 64 radeon 8500 came with DVI

would you like to trade straight across?

It works like a charm still, it was replaced by my 9700

I think I may just upgrade my card to a Radeon 9500 and sell my current one. It looks like I can get one from Newegg for under $175. I also want to stay with at least a 128MB card. Thanks for the offer though Rogo.
