I think yes a bit with Memmory operations so the overall perfomace should be better, but it counts in 0.1 or 1-2 % :) not any more, but they are

I recently bought an Athlon 64 3500+ wih an Abit AV8 motherboard. The system went together fine and is running great..... BUT if you are in the market I would say avoid the Abit. The reason is the placement of the fan switches, power connector, and IDE posts.

The fan switches are too far for my fan wires to reach as are the IDE posts. I dont have a real tall case but the cables for the CD/Zip wouldnt reach. The power supply bracket is located right next to the chip/fan wich cause the p/s cable to dangle directly over the fan.

Im hesitant to tell you not to buy a board that worked fine 1st time out of the gate (never seems to happen) but if the others (Asus etc.) dont have these issues I'd say look at those 1st.

Good luck,

Ken

Aku811,

I recently built my first AMD machine a couple of weeks ago (FX-53 939 and Asus A8V Deluxe). Ran great until last Friday, then either the onboard Marvell Gigabit Ethernet chip (or more likely the mobo's RJ45 connector) crapped-out. Sent the board in today for testing and replacement.

If you get an A8V Deluxe try to get the Revision 2, which has a PCI/AGP Lock. The Revision 2 is also supposed to have some other refinements/tweaks that the Revision 1 board (which I have) does not.

Heres' a link to a Socket 939 mobo review on this site:

I can tell you one thing for sure. DO NOT go for motherboards based on VIA K8TPro chipsets.

First of all they are having problems with the AGP/PCI lock, though newer versions of boards have solved this problem.
Secondly, they are way slower than the nForce3 chipsets. Thirdly, in terms of features that the chipset provides, nForce3
is again way ahead than the VIA.

It's not that I do not like VIA, it is that this time they didn't come-up with good product.
The only reason right now that people are going for this chipset, is the lack of mobos in the market which are based on nForce3 solutions. I have a S939 3500+, but I am waiting for the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum board. It should be in stores in the next 10-15 days, I think so. Epox has also anounced their version of S939 nForce3 solution, which is supposed to hit the stores in mid September.

So, I'd say be patient and get nForce3 chipset based motherboard.
