Need help choosing a KVM switch

I've bought 2 of these and both have issues.

1. Linksys - terrible mouse lag. The pointer fails to move until the mouse has moved a good 6 inches. This is totally unacceptable.

2. Hawking - I constantly had to cycle thru the ports to get it to connect to the chosen computer. It rarely connected the first time. This too, is totally unacceptable.

After these 2 failures, it's time to seek the advise of the experts. I know I should have done this before I bought the first one but what can I say, I'm retarded that way. I don't ask for directions until I'm hopelessly lost either.

So, what's a good 2 port KVM that works with a wireless keyboard and mouse? I'd also prefer USB and speaker ports but these aren't necessary.

Thanks :)

Thanks HDTVman. :)

Years ago, I bought 3 D-link NICS and all 3 failed within a month. I haven't bought a D-Link product since. They're still in business so obviously, other's have had better luck than me but still.............

Will do. It's been shipped and I should have it by Wednesday.

I also have a Belkin Omni View that works halfass. I wouldn't but another, I constantly have to reset it to get it to work. Also, I wouldn't buy one that doesn't allow direct switching as opposed to cycling thru the ports one at a time. This is a plain stupid and cheap design that's a royal PITA if you use it regularily.

Seems like there are a lot of people who have had problems with KVM's. they don't seem like rocket science so I don't understand why one that works correctly can't be made

I think it has to do with the varies in remote Keyboard/Mice Frequencies but no KVM that goes down right after it's warranty deserves recomendation

You bring up a good thought. Its best to take product numbers from other sites if cheaper and run them through NewEgg and Amazon since they let people review the product good or bad. Helps to narrow down what seems like a good deal which will only be a nightmare down the road.

Got the switch today and so far, it works perfectly. i have 4 computers hooked to it plus a wireless keyboard and mouse. what really makes this a super deal is that the cables come with it.

Been playing with it extensively and it's flawless. I especially like the fact that I can directly switch to a computer without having to cycle thru each one like the Belkin.

What a timely topic. I'm looking for a KVM switch as well, but I'm looking for one that works for a Mac and a PC. To be honest, I probably wouldn't even use the V in the KVM, I just need something that splits a keyboard, mouse, and audio. I rarely would have two machines running simultaneously...just wouldn't want to unplug it every time.

I know I can use a y splitter for the audio, but I've heard that the quality gets bad. Anyone know of a KMA switch? ;)

In my research, FWIW, i ran across quite a few reviews on newegg where people were complaining about audio degradation and compatibility problems with Macs so a little bit of due diligence would help in your case. I didn't need audio switching so that wasn't a factor.

Newegg carries so many of there things I'm sure there's at least one that meets your requirements and has favorable reviews, just gotta take the time to slog through them.

Good luck.

Yeah, I'm still researching...I tried to go to the local stores to see what they had, but nothing. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet, try one, and see how it works!

This one is working perfectly. Much better than my Belkin.

Highly recommended.
