First off, my current set up is a Dell desktop with an OEM mobo, 4GB 1333 OEM DDR3, OEM i7-920. I have added an Antec PSU, a GTX 260 216SP and an Intel X-25M 80GB over the last year or so and moved the whole rig into an Antec Three Hundred case. The OEM mobo does not support over-clocking or trim for the SSD so I am looking to upgrade the mobo and get some higher speed ram.

I plan on picking up this mobo:

and this memory:

I plan to OC the i7-920 and I have no idea what HSF I should order since I haven't OC'd anything since my old C2D E6400 on 775. So I have three questions:

1) Which HSF should I use?
2) What kind of OC should I expect to get with an OEM i7-920?
3) What do you think of my mobo/memory pick? Any suggestions/recommendations?

I'm hoping to order everything today and any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The board is a pretty decent baord This should overclock good. I would go for the silver arrow i bought it and thats the best 80 dollars i spent. Its a beast at cooling. First find out if it will fit your motherboard and case if your planning and buying. You can also look at the noctua d14. D14 and silver arrow are identical.

if you want the best air coolers consider the Noctura NH-D14, silver arrow, megahalems or the TRUE. The H70 is also a good option.

I use a Scythe Ninja 2 and have OC'd up to 4ghz stable overnight in prime95.

I no longer run an OC for power saving and noise concerns but am extremely happy with this HSF.

I would recommend the megahalems or a lapped true. I myself have a lapped true black, works great for my 980x.

I have a CoolIt ECO for my 920, and im loving it.

I was gonna say... if you are considering $80 HSFs, you should also consider the CoolIt Eco and the Corsair H50. If your budget is higher, then the CoolIt Vantage or Corsair H70, and if it fits, the CoolIt Eco c240.

If are you shooting for an overclock beyond 4.0ghz, I agree that Megahalems, Silver Arrow, Cogage Arrow, H70, NH-D14 are the best ones, but each of these with fans will clock at $75-90+.

If you want a budget cooler with rock solid performance, grab the True Spirit for $32. At that price, performance is exceptional.

Another newcomer is the Spire TherMax II, which already comes with 2x 120mm fans. Performance is jaw dropping for $55.

The cooler Mark linked is also worlds better than the Noctua you linked.

h70 and the h50 is practically the same. Can be noisy and at the same time it cools just the same way as the h50 no need to spend extra for the h70. I have the sivler i can tell u this its the best way to go.

Wow, I don't know about the noise, or the mounting on that Spire, but its cooling/$$ looks great !

As a side note, looks like Zerotherm is back in business with a new supercooler as well.

Based on paper specs alone, it looks very good compared to the Megahalems or the Venomous X.

Megahalems - (L)130mm X (W)74mm X (H)158.7mm - 6x6mm heatpipes
Venomous X - (L)127mm X (W)63 X (H)160 mm - 6x6mm heatpipes
ZeroTherm ZT-10D
- (L)127mm X (W)74mm X (H)160mm - 6x8mm heatpipes
