Need help changing screen resolution

So I got a new samsung LCD 40 inch hdtv. Im playing my wii on it and I want to change the res to 480i cause the graphics on a wii will only reach that point before the picture starts to degrade. I see that I can change the aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 is that the same as going down to 480i?
