I currently have the following setup:

Asus P3v4x
win98se
P600@800
maxtor 20gb
yamaha cdrw
sblive value
196mb ram
2 NIC's
3com isa modem
Radeon 32DDr

Abit KT7
win98se
duron 600@900
Matrox G400
128mb ram
ibm 20gb
sblive value
linksys nic
32x cdrom

I have an extra drive that i made a ghost copy of my Asus box.
I would like to place the abit board and duron into the box with the current asus board and intel cpu. This is for testing out the radeon. with the duron/abit setup.
Is it possible to go into the device manager and remove items (ASUS BOX) then pull the asus board out and put in the abit board, then put the cards into the abit slots?
If this is possible could someone tell me with devices to remove from device manager.

thanks,

mike

Why not just make a ghost of your Duron drive and just swap video cards?

It sounds alot easier.

I thought about that first. but i have the ASUS as my main box with printer, scanner, @home cable NIC. I wanted to see if the duron@900 would make much improvement over the p3@800 with all the extras attached.

Sounds like a lot of effort to split hairs... 800 PIII to a 900 Duron

In the business world it's called ROI,(what's the "Return On the Investment")??...

for all this work your planning, how much of a return can you possibly get?

If you were compareing a Celeron@800 there might be a greater difference, but a PIII at 800 is a very good processor..also if you were comparing a 1gig T-Bird there might be a greater difference

an 800 PIII and a Duron 900, both on Via chipset boards,...sounds kinda close, with the work involved to find out how big the difference is, I might just forget about it....and leave everything that's not broken alone and running well...

good luck...and if ya do it...post back what ya found out..

theoretically yes...since ur mobo's are completely different u might want to remove everything and have win redetect everything to avoid any confusion

make sure your ghost image works before you proceed

win registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum contains eveything in the device manager

remember that if u remove a device, u should also remove the software associated with the device: ie liveware of live! and powerdesk of g400
