Need help buying PC fast

Long story short I have come into $1,500 that I must spend by the weekend or it will go away(Won a contest, and 1,500 online shopping spree) The damn thing has experiation date of next week. Anyway, I want to build a an E6600 or 6400 gaming machine. I was doing research and taking time, but as you know that has changed. Here are my needs,

6600 or 6400
A good Overclockable motherboard
a 512 GPU

I have a monitor so i wont be needing one of those. I dont know much about computers, but parts that have a good compatibility record would be great too. If I could just get some suggestions on a good build on these componets, or if you like some other componets I'm open to those. Thanks in advance for any help!

Intel core 2 duo E6400
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
2GB DDR2 6400
HD, how high is up.
7900GTX / X1900XTX / 7950GX2 / X1950 (In order of power).
Speakers + Sound card?

Welcome to AT.

If I were buying a new case / PSU, I'd probably get something by Antec or Lian-Li for the case and I'd look at getting another Seasonic PSU.

I'd make a few mods to this config if you're wanting to extract the maximum speed from your C2D.

I'd go with this but with a few changes. Get the E6400 instead of the E6300.

I would also go with a better Power Supply. Get one from here link.

I'd also shy away from Samsung HD's but that's me.

I also think some better Corsair RAM will serve you better but these Conroes seem to be pretty forgiving on the RAM when it comes to overclocks and Mushkin is a fine brand.

Other than that you should be good to go.

Thanks for the Replys.

Howard thanks for the nice list with the links. That came into about 1100, so that leave a little more room. I think that I will go the 6400, and maybe some faster ram. I will need an OS as well, but those arent too much these days. Also, will that huge card fit in that cse?

More power is always good but it doesn't have to be the most expensive one 😉 PCPC is great but overkill for many. A good Enhance or Seasonic would be fine I'd think. Now of course if after the other parts he still had plenty of money to burn well then be all means go for it 😀

Just out of curiosity why would you shy away from Samsung HD's? I've used many of them and they've all been extremely reliable and durable (the one got horribly banged around in a computer when it was shipped a few years ago and it still works perfectly). I guess if you've had bad experiences with them (like I have had with WD drives and avoid them like the plague) then that is understandable.

Evilhomer99, welcome to AT

Haven't heard anything to the contrary. You don't need a PC P&C PSU, btw.

If you want the higher multiplier, ewiz also carries the E6400 at a very low price. I think a better use of your money would be to upgrade the SP2504C to a HD400LJ for storage and get a WD740ADFD as the primary drive.

EDIT: Damn if memory manufacturers aren't hiking prices again...

I think thats a great suggestion, esspecially if you've got a little extra money.

Howard has a pretty nice layout there. If you have more to play with you get a better case such as the Lian Li PC-7B or PC-V1100 if the budget allows.

You might as want to consider better aftermarket cooling for the CPU and 1900XT. Consider the VF-900 (GPU) and CNPS-9500AT, or Thermalright Ultra 90 or 120 (CPU).

Do you get to keep the change?

If not then you might as well go all out and get a P180?
Skip the Samsung hard drives and move to Seagate + Raptor 150
