Hey everyone, Im building a computer for a friend for the first time in 4 years and everything is quite a bit different now than it was back then (actually I think its gotten easier but who knows)... I was wondering if I could get some help picking out a Case/PS/MB/Processor.
I only want to spend $600 or so not including monitor.
Im figuring on $40 for sound card (Live Value), $20 for CD-Rom, $100 for hard drive, $60 for RAM, $50 for video, and thats about it.. right? What about fans?

Depending on price I may get a DVD drive instead of CDROM and maybe a better sound video, but for now lets say using the amount above thats $270 plus the cost of a floppy drive, a fan, and some cables. That leaves about $300 for the Case, power supply, motherboard, and processor. Im thinking an Athlon 1Ghz at a minimum. Fire away!

I've recently built a PC that is running great, and will fall into your budget. I got everything from Newegg (except for monitor and keyboard), and it was about $650 before shipping and tax. The specs:

InWin S500 ATX with 300W (includes 1 case fan)
IWill KK266 w/Audio (no need for SB Live, sounds good)
256MB Kingston ValueRam
WD 30GB Caviar (5400rpm instead of 7200 saves a few bucks)
Leadtek GeForce2 MX
1GHz TBird @ 266MHz
Aopen 16X DVD

Good Luck
