Need help buying a new Toyota Camry

Ok, our car got totalled and we would like to buy a new Camry. There were some rebates that just ended (dang it) 1000 on camry and 500 for active military (11-23-04 to 11-30-04). I would assume that they wait until the end of the month to put out rebates for stimulated sales. How can I find out when a rebate is coming out? Would I be ahead to wait until after christmas?? Any help is appreciated! Thanks,

Paul

Simple Answer: Loss-leader.

The last car my parents bought was a Camry. In September or '00 dad paid $14k for brand spankin' new one. Not bad eh?

3 weeks from now because:

1) Got your PM, check your mail in a few days 🙂 LOSS LEADER ADS ROCK!
2) End of month, car sales people trying to meet their quota's.
3) End of year.
4) Clearance, dealers trying to clear 2004 models out.
5) It's holiday season, car dealerships are probably slow.

We bought our INVOICE Honda Accord $19,500 for $17,244 thanks to a loss leader ad.

you need to do your research. Know what options you want on the car. Find out the MSRP value of the options and the list price of the options. A site like edmunds.com or even yahoo should help you find this.

You should never pay MSRP or more(for a nonlhigh luxury or Saturn), this is just a sucker price. Your price should be somewhere between the list and MSRP price. Sometimes you can get a car for list or less (but not on a new 05 camry most likely).

Check out fool.com for car buying pointers.

One great way they suggest is, if you know the options and colors you want send a fax out to a bunch of fleet managers at different locations. Say you will be buying a car and these are the features you want. The location with the lowest price for the features you requested gets the deal.

A loss leader is exactly that, no matter the product you're talking about. Take Black Frideay and Best Buy. Their biggest loss leader was the Toshiba laptop for $99 + tax out the door, no rebates. Unfortunately, quantities were limited.......so the store hopes you'll lose out trying to buy one and purchase "up", or get the salesperson talk you into buying "up" for better features, speed, etc.

Cars are the same.......the lowest priced of any model advertised, usually in big splash ads in newspapers....the dealer hopes to draw you in to see it, but hopes to talk you "up" in models, options, etc. The loss leader's quantities will be very limited, to say the least.

Yeah, you usually have to make sure you're the first person in the door the day the ad runs to have any chance of getting the car.

Exactly.

1) Buy the newspaper early Saturday or Sunday morning, head straight to the dealership BEFORE they open.
2) Remember to bring your Edmunds print out info with you, and play dealerships against each other.
3) There are usually only 1-7 loss leader vehicles allocated per dealership when those are sold then you're stuck dickering and bickering. The stock or VIN number of all the loss leader cars should be listed in the ad. You have no choice in color or trim but you can save $500 - $3,000 below invoice.

WingZero94 - I found a few loss leader ads which will be mailed to you tomorrow morning.

Let's say I'm the first person at the dealership. They cannot pull a bait and switch right, since that would be false advertising right?
