Well I've never built a computer myself before but I wanted to try this time because I know it's cheaper. I don't really know what's that good or not and luckily I came across this site and was hoping for some help. My goal is to spend roughly 1200USD or less. A little more won't kill me or anything though. That's just my goal. I was starting to research some things and over a WHOLE hour was only able to decide on two things. The case I was going to get and the CPU, but any suggestions on something better for the buck would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway for the CPU I figured I'd go with the E6600 or the E6400. And the cases I am debating between are either the ThermalTake Tsunami or the COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811119068 ]. I figured in the end when I am able to come up with an estimate of how much I'll be spending I'd see if I'd have the extra ~50.00 dollars for the Tsunami case.

Okay so other than that I am kind of clueless on what to get. I know brand names but I don't know particulary what works with what and what is good with what. Like I know Corsair is a good brand of RAM. I've been hearing about GSkill being good RAM as well? Anyway as you can tell I don't know too much =/ . Does anyone have suggestions on certain parts? It's fine if you're not able to sit here and list a whole system for me but maybe a suggestion on a part or two, whether it be the RAM, mobo, Videocard, PSU.

I already have a soundcard that I'll use (Sound Blaster Audigy 2). Keyboard, Mouse and monitor. I just need to get a tower and the other stuff. Oh and also, this computer will be mainly used for gaming and as you could probably tell, I WILL NOT be overclocking.

Oh and 3 last questions..sorry =/ . Does the type of thermal paste matter and it's just applied on the CPU right? And is hooking up the front USB ports of the tower hard? Cause my current case has them but they aren't hooked up and I was trying to figure it out but couldn't =/. Thanks if anyone is able to help me :)

Dear god. There's about 70 threads a day asking about what the best components would be. Look in the General Hardware forum and you may even find a system spec already laid out that would be perfect for you.

well this is a help forum right? But I'll take a look again I must have missed them thanks for the reply. Maybe people should put together a buying guide with suggestions on what to put into a system and an estimated price then sticky it. Would probably help cut down on these threads. ^_^

edit: nevermind i should have browsed the site more, I see that they do actually put up buying guides =] though the last one was a few months ago it's still nice to go by :)

ArsTechnica has a fresh new buying guide up as their main article right this minute.

Aside from that, this is the Tech Support forum, so suggestions on new builds and technical questions trying to learn wouldn't rightly go here anyway.
