its hard to decide between building one or buying a dell, with the dell i get,
p4 2.8GHZ
xp pro
512mb dual channel ram
keyboard and mouse
17 inch crt (makes me want the dell right here)
Integrated extreme graphics 2(doesnt make me want the dell because of sharing)
40 gb hd
3.5 floppy
10/100 intergrated ethernet
56k modem
adobe acrobat reader 6.0
48x cd-rw
intergrated audio
office (outlook, word, and excel)
and the warranty and stuff
for 751 after mail in rebate and free shipping

You can probably get something for right around that same price and it will be better. The 3000+ will smoke that P4 2.8 You'll also have a better overall system, more upgradable, etc. They say 512 dual channel ram so I bet that means they use two 256 sticks, ugh. Now if you want to upgrade by throwing in a 512 stick, no more dual channel.

If you really want to get a Dell, get one of those $400 jobs instead if your mom's usage really is that undemanding.

Do you really need Office?

shopping.hp.com has a $250 dollar steal going on at the moment. Deck it out with the upgrades you want and you would do just fine.

yes, because my moms computer is the only one in the house with internet, so thats where we do most of our research and typing papers and stuff, so it just a whole lot easier that way
ill take a look at that hp thing for 250, and see what i can make out of it.
thanks
