Need help building new computer

Hi, I am planning to build a new computer. Can you guys give me any suggestions? You am looking for a high end pc, but not too expensive. Thanks for the help!

I would stick with a Duron or PIII 700 for "high end" but not too expensive. Of course I really have no idea what expensive means to you or what you intend to do with it. Video, music, games CAD? It makes a difference.

Budget and intended use is really kind of necessary data, with that you'll get plenty of advice.

Also, it's best to scout around your area, find out which product is available, look up hardware site and their reviews and pick out the components you want. Posting on a dozen forums out of the blue on what to get for your ahem, high-end computer without giving more details nor showing that you've done your homework isn't really that advisable. 🙂

I would say stick with a AMD Athlon around 800 - 1ghz, or Duron 7hundred something.

nowadays the AMD processors provide much better bang for the buck compared to the P3 series.

If you must build now....

I say:

Case - "Addtronics" (pick the one you want/need)
Motherboard - "MSI 6163 Master"
CPU - "Pentium III 700e (flip chip)"
Slotket - go with "MSI" on this
RAM PC133 128-256 MB - "Mushkin" (I much prefer Mushkin HSDRAM)
Hard Drive - "IBM Dekstar" (at least 30 gigger)
Video Card - "ATI Radeon" (all in wonders are kind of fun)
Sound Card - "SoundBlaster Live!"
DVD/CDROM - "Pioneer" (6x plus)
3.5 Floppy - "Mitsumi"
Fans - "Panaflo" (you will need a few for your new case)
Keyboard - "PCConcepts Wireless" (has internet/DVD controller)
Mouse - "Microsoft w/IntelliEye"
Speakers - whatever sounds best to you. (stick with Dolby Digital and Decoder 5.1 setup)
Monitor - "Viewsonic PF790" (Flat and I YIKE IT!)

This would all be a pretty good start. You can consider RAID, Dual CPU's, and lots of other fun stuff.... depending on what you are using this for.


Oh and feel free to run this at 933Mhz or so.... it should do it nicely. 🙂
