my current config now looks like this(all prices shipped):
1.1ghz tualtin celeron $68
either---
-MSI 6368L MATX Motherboard,VIA chipset(onboard vid, sound, lan) $60
or
-Biostar M6VLQ Mobo, VIA chipset (onboard vid, sound, lan) $53
1X128MB PC133 non generic (generic is unstable) 40$ from crucial
52x CD-Rom $30
10gb Western Digital 7200rpm HD $60.00
MicroATX case with 180W-250W PSU $30

Total = $288 (w/MSI mobo) OR $281 (w/Biostar Mobo)
-------

if anyone can come up with ways to shave more...
or a TOTALLY different suggestion..
or any advise at all.

I got an idea. American tech has an Intel i810E2 board that has good USB and idea performance for 45$. 50$ with shipping. And NO VIA CHIPSET FOR BUISINESSES! Via has a bad rep. Your chipset is almost as important as your CPU. If you loose papers on a computer because of some weird PCI problem you could loose alot more than the computer is worth.

So my computer would look like this.

Intel i810E2 motherboard (with integrated video) from Ameritech or something 50$
Celeron800 55$ shipped

Easy chease.

Note to all:I E-mailed anand on the cache issue. We should hear if they are really manufactured with 128K in mind or if some of 'em are rejects or not.

I am writing out of ignorance rather then specific knowledge, but:

Make sure whatever chipset/video/sound you end up getting work with NT 4! It is not necessarily the case that newer & faster are better, you could end up with no drivers for your OS. Case in point - Red Dawn and FishTankX both mentioned USB as a feature for the motherboard they recommended. USB doesn't work on NT 4! Make sute the VIA or Intel 815 etc. are good for you.
