Need help building a new comp...

It's that time again 🙂

Just ordered a 1.6a and hoping it hits 2.4ghz 😀
But now I need to know what Mobo to get? I just want the best mobo to oc with and most stable. Don't need all those on board sound extras and stuff. I heard the Epox is better for OCing than Asus boards.

Also What ram should I get for best performance and ocing?

Then there's the HS/F.. Is the stock good enough? Or should I get soemthing more to lower the temps. Don't want it to be too loud though 😛 My FOP38 with delta fan on my tbird is pretty loud to me 😛

What kinda case also? Mid-tower is preferrable though full tower I wouldn't mind 😉. I want the pretty ones with the side glass! Though not required 😛 Also what kinda case fans?

What vid card? I was thinking the gf4 ti 4200 and oc that too. I could go with the 4400 but I might go over my budget. Does the performance justify the cost?

I'm also thinking about the audigy for my sound card.

Also what HD should I get?

That's about it 🙂 I'll worry about the otehr stuff later (monitor, speakers)

I'd like to keep the price below 1000$ if possible 🙂

Well you have the right idea...

as for a mainboard go Epox... nice features, good overclocking!

get your self some nice samsung DDR 333... so you can hit those high fsb's ...

And your 4200 should be sweet.... Leadtek, and Gainward ahve sweet overclocking cards,,,

Good Luck...

Stock HSF can cover you if you have a decent case cooling..

so far...

Epox 4g4a
WD JB 80 gb
SB Audigy
Liteon 32x Burner
Liteon DVD or CD
Leadtek gf4 ti 4200 128mb
512mb Samsung DDR 2700

Also the samesungs are rated at cas 2.5 while the corsair and mushkin are rated at 2.. Wouldn't they be faster? 😛 Of course I'm just a noob 🙂 and why 2700 and not 3000 and such

Stock will be decent, but any good oc'er will get a performance HSF. Thermalright makes a few good solutions, and check on Alphas as well. DDR 2700 will be enough for you, not needed to waste more money on 3000+.

I heard there are problems with the newer samsungs...

Should I opt for the Corsair XMS with the heat spreader?

There are some nice cases at Newegg that have the side-glass windows on the Antec clones. The Antec/Chieftec cases look really cool.

You won't benefit from higher RPM fans if you use the stock aluminum heatsink that AMD gives you in their retail box. The reason being that the heatsink can only suck so much heat out anyway, why get a fan that can move more heat than the heatsink is dissipating?

High-end performance heatsinks will always benefit from higher airflows because they are usually better made and can dissipate more heat faster. Hence a higher RPM fan would help it move the heat away.

The Epox 4G4A with Chieftec case & some Crucial PC2700 ram should be very good combo 🙂.
