well your obviously going to be using a core 2 duo build. i would say

e6600
680i mobo
2gb quality ram (Crucial)
pc-power and cooling psu or ocz
lian li case

gpu is up to you. if you want dx10, your stuck w/ 8800 series from nvidia, but ATI has their new cards coming out soon, so keep looking.

Do you have a monitor? All the peripherals? OS in the budget? Overclock? As much info as possible is helpful. Also getting a corsair 520 is a good bet for a psu as well.

Also tigerdirect.ca ships to canada.

I did not pick a case as I think that is a very personal thing (also because I ran out of money  )

RAM: Corsair Value Select PC2-5300 2X1GB DDR2-667 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit $210.51

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Dual Core Processor LGA775 Conroe 2.13GHZ 1066FSB 2MB Retail $275.60

GPU: EVGA E-GEFORCE 8800 GTS 500MHZ 640MB 1.6GHZ GDDR3 Dual DVI-I HDTV Out HDCP DIRECTX10 Video Card $477.00

PSU: Seasonic S12 ENERGY+ 550W ATX12V V2.2 20/24PIN Active PFC Power Supply Retail Box
$122.04

all from here: http://www.directcanada.com/

and

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-945P-S3 ATX LGA775 Conroe 945P DDR2 PCI-E16 3PCI-E 3PCI SATA2 GBLAN Audio Motherboard $124.20

from here: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=19874

Total comes to $1,209.35 but I really wanted to squeeze an 8800GTS in there if you are going to be keeping this rig for 5 years.

If you can wait a month or so I believe the C2D price cuts will be in by then and the 8800GTS may be price-reduced as well.

Anyway, good luck.

Is your budget of 1K to 1.2K in USD or CAN?

I would imagine...

Intel E6300
Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 motherboard
2GB DDR2-667
160GB or 250GB 7200rpm SATA
16X DVDRW (samsung, lite-on)
Sonata II case w/psu
256MB 7950 GT
