Need help blocking websites

So my mom runs my hometown newspaper, and one of the employees is spending a lot of her time on facebook and myspace. She asked me to block those sites for her but I don't really know how. I've tried editing the "hosts" file in system32/drivers/etc/hosts but it doesn't seem to work. All it does is bring up some windows defender notification and goes through to facebook anyway (maybe my firefox is too smart for that trick)

Anyway, all I want to do is block those two sites from a single computer on their network. I *dont* want to block it on the whole network. Also if possible I don't want it to be obvious that the sites are actively blocked (i.e. no openDNS type page coming up) and easily reversible. I don't know jack about networking but I'm knowledgeable so if someone can point me in the right direction I could probably figure it out

Oh, and the computer in question uses vista and the most recent IE

Weird... I'm testing out the hosts edit on my computer and it lets facebook through but blocks myspace (in FF) but blocks both in IE

Nevermind, it wasn't blocking facebook in FF because it was reading my cached version. It's all figured out, disregard this thread
