hi guys! im a bit stumped. hope you can help me out. i was recently blessed w/ a geforce 6800 ultra(pny), and it was good.=) but then the weirdest thing happened. after playing games for a couple of minutes, the suddenly computer crashes so then i had reset my cpu. i thought at first that it was just a software problem. so i erased everthing and installed a new win xp. but then the same thing kept happening.so i started to get real curious. to shorten things out, i tried a lot of stuff and it just kept crashing. then i noticed that my video card got really hot everytime the pc crashed. then i found out that the fan on my video card wasn't working. and now the WEIRD part! the fan would only cease to work AFTER, i install my graphics driver. if its in safe mode or if it hasn't entered normal windows yet, it works just fine. but once the driver starts to work, the fan suddenly stops. and oh yeah, after i shut down my pc, as the whole thing turns off, the fan would rotate once(sorta teasing me) which ticks me off all the more! ive tried installing different drivers and its still the same. im running out of ideas. heck, i even tried switching monitors last night! ive asked friends and no one has ever encountered such a case. really ned your help guys! thanks!;) oh yeah, just in case, my system meets the requirement for the video card so i dont think thats the case. well at least i hope not. hope to hear from you! thanks

K a few things you should check...Did you plug in the Molex connector to the video card? If so, make sure there is nothing in the driver settings that has to do with the fan being turned off. If ya find nothing then post back and let us know what is goin on..

2 molex's right? I think the Ultra has 2 molex's. My GT has only one.
And yes, give us the DETAILS of your system including your Power Supply sticker ratings for 12V+. We need to know the Make, Model, Wattage and 12V+ Amp rating.

sorry for the late reply. anyways, ive tried using older versions of the driver and its still the same. this afternoon i even tried the latest omega driver. and even with the "fan always on" option checked, it still stops.

i also tried starting it up w/ my fingers, still stops. just a while ago i tried using the vcard on my friend's pc and its still the same!!

i emailed pny's technical support 2 nights ago and still no reply. oh yeah, one guy suggested that i should just use a new heat sink but then im worried that it would only worsen the vcard's current situation and/or void the warranty. so im kinda really out of options. here are my specs. btw, ive heard pny has a little trouble in honoring their warraties. is this true?

my specs:
sempron 2500+
ecs k7vta
1gig ddr333 ram (2x 512)
hec powerop 525W

under power supply:
3.3v 37A
+5v 45A
+12v 21A
-5v 1A
-12v 1A

drivers ive tried:
nvidia 66.93, 71.84 and the card's stock driver
nvidia omega 1.6693

my friend's specs:
k7n2 delta ilsr
athlon xp 2500+
hec power op 475w

sure your system can handle a big GPU like that! (im kidding!)

try that 6900 in your buddies cpu, see if it does the same thing....that might give you a clue on what might be casuing it!

Yeah. I think the only thing worse than that is someone who comes in and does nothing but post a comment about the reply, without doing anything to help the OP. :disgust:

That's a pretty craptastic PSU, I'm sure, but an inadequate PSU normally wouldn't cause the fan to stop; the whole system would be unstable. It sounds like something is wrong with the card.
